One of Australia's most experienced and versatile musicians, Greg Lyon leads this band of world-class players and singers now based around Byron Bay. The third album from The Hip Operation is out now.

,In between Covid lockdowns on April and May 2021, some of Australia's finest musicians and singers gathered at Greg Lyon's studio in Byron Bay.There was laughter, food and wine, stories and wonderful communal music-making shared by friends of 30+ years. The love and mutual respect comes through the music on this collection of original tunes and concert favourites. It is music to uplift spirits with grooves that make you feel good.
Mostly recorded live in the studio to capture the feel and spontaneity in the music , Out of the Blue features a unique lineup of musical talent known and respected in the industry.

It was recorded and mixed by Paul Cheeseman.

Greg Lyon’s ‘Out Of The Blue’
Borne of a deep connection to roots and country-soul music, and a life experience steeped in myriad musical collaborations in studio and live performance, Greg is one of our most revered and ‘in demand’ session/live musicians (mostly bass) since the 70’s. He was also a member of our best known jazz fusion outfit, Crossfire, so to me, it seems only natural that he’d deliver an assortment of cool songs dripping with groove and heart’n’soul……nothing ‘out of the blue’ about it!
‘Out Of The Blue’ is a joyous trip through soulful, heartfelt originals such as ‘Holy Wine’, and ‘New Day’ and new takes on choice old faves like ‘Mind Your Own Business’ by Hank Williams, Van’s ‘Into The Mystic’ and a lovely reading of Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love.’ There are more songs of course, all good, with majestic playing throughout plus a supreme amount of FUNK!
Oh, and by the way, he’s a hell of a singer.......out of the blue indeed!!
