Jim Kelly’s Thrillseekers / Healin’ Feelin’
Jim Kelly is my dear friend and most long standing musical buddy. We have been playing music together since 1973 and it just seems to get better . Many years playing in the Crossfire band , in countless other musical and studio situations, and in recent years on the many projects he organises , means we have developed a telepathic musical empathy and understanding that I treasure greatly and others notice.
He is a superb musician , a master of so many styles , a passionate improviser, relentless composer, organized bandleader, inspiring teacher and with a wicked sense of humour thrown in.. His respect within the music industry is enormous. With the sad passing of our dear mate drummer/producer Russell Dunlop , Jim has now also taken over a lot of the mixing/production duties at Booyong Studios, which they started with luthier Les Dorahy a couple of years ago.
Recent line-ups we have had include a 2-drummer band [Scott Hills and Dave Sanders ] quite often with Martha Baartz on sax, a 2- guitar version with Matt Smith or a bluesy version with slide guitar virtuoso Kirk Lorange.
Jim’s writing for the recent bands is more trimmed down and soul-groove orientated than his fusion tunes .There are quite a few tracks ‘in the can’ with Russell Dunlop , sax player Tony Buchanan and others, and we are writing some vocal tunes to finish a CD soon . Jim has several other CDs available , and numerous other projects on the go.
